Freight Topics

  • YRC Agrees to pay $712,244.11 in damages for exceeding the contractual limit on the use of rail/road purchased transportation for 2015.  This could affect as many as 240+ drivers with an average payout of $300.00 per driver.
  • YRC - grievance settlements more than $1600.00 since September 2016.
  • YRC - Sunday & holiday meal pay settlement for 109 separate complaints, for a total of over $6400.00 for our jurisdiction alone.  This settled the issue across the Carolinas.
  • USF Holland - Grievance settlements more than $3000.00 since September 2016.


  • A new "Memo of Understanding" for a new starting wage of $23.00 per hour (up from $18.75) for new journeyman mechanics in our jurisdiction to help fill 5 full-time mechanic vacancies.
  • Over 9.5, Seniority violations and Relief of Overtime settlements since September 2016, more than $15,600.00 (Over $45,000.00 for 2016).
  • Supervisor Working settlements since September 2016, $4,000.00+.
  • Lake Norman Village (UPS Freight Terminal) will be a permanent NEW package center for UPS that will include package car routes from the Derita and Gastonia Centers.  They're already planning on expanding the base number of routes in that facility to relieve the Charlotte Hub's overcrowding.

White Paper Contract

  • Has won 2 major discharge arbitrations this year with American Red Cross, with back pay benefits in excess of $100,000.
  • Settled numerous grievances with the American Red Cross resulting in MAJOR wage increases for ALL employees.
  • Won a precedent-setting arbitration case with Kellogg on the DriveCam.  The ONLY Union with contractual language "requiring" negotiations "PRIOR" to implementation.

Organizing Front

  • We are continuing our monthly negotiations with FedEx Freight, one of the most "anti-union" companies in the world.  It's been a slow process but they're at the negotiating table; something Fred Smith (CEO) said they'd NEVER do!!! Our Negotiating Committee has remained as we continue to move forward in this precedent-setting endeavor.
